IA Support... Search not working

Just an FYI that searching the Support topics is not working...
all searches return a 404 error essentially rendering the IA support next to useless in term of searching for solutions to problems.

Re: Runtimes and Features

As of InstallAware Version 12 this problem has still not been resolved.
As stated above Win 7 installs will have all folder permission removed if you use the 'Operation -> Grant Everyone Total Control' option.

Re: UAC Questions...

Thanks Aviv, I appreciate the your taking the time to answer my questions. It is very helpful. Thank you! So, based on what you have told me, I am surmising that the 'Vista User Account Control Elevation' option is essentially a redundant and seemingly pointless option to have enabled IF I also have...

UAC Questions...

I have a couple of UAC questions that I have been wondering about for some time, but still cause me confusion each time I look at the InstallAware UI. When I read the IA Help documentation, it unfortunately is ambiguous enough about this topic that it sometimes almost seems contradictory. Perhaps yo...

Re: Convert Older IA project to 32/64 hybrid?

Hi Aviv, Thanks very much for your reply. In answer to your question 2) I am confused - do you or do you not want to include x64 folders in your setup? ... My install needs to install my 32bit application on both 32bit Win7 and 64bit Win7 operating systems. It also needs to install SQL2008 Express (...

Convert Older IA project to 32/64 hybrid?

Hello, I've been putting off building a hybrid 32 /64 bit install, because my previous attempts ended in frustration. I've was hoping that some 32 vs 64bit intelligence would be added into InstallAware v12, that would automatically determine if a 32bit or wow64 bit install is required at runtime, bu...

Re: UAC Elevation Clarification

Shenjige, You need to be in the MSICode window... On the right hand side of the MSICode screen is the 'Drag and Drop' column of commands categories. Locate and expand the 'All' category, then locate 'Run Program As' from the list. Drag and Drop 'Run Program As' into your the appropriate place in you...

Patch file names

Hello, I am looking for some guidance with regard to the naming of patch exe files. I notice on page 7 of the Installaware whitepaper named 'installaware_web_updates.pdf' (show below), that each of the patches has a different name. Giving each patch a different name would be very useful as it would ...

Re: Copy Options -Never Overwrite and Permanent File

Hi Aviv, Thanks for this information... I thought that this might be the case. If I may be blunt, I find that this is a good example of where the InstallAware documentation is lacking. I wish that it would just clearly state something like: ' Think carefully about what files you want to protect or p...

Re: My SQL database script will not create the DB in IA...

My apologies to everyone looking here for a solution for the last 5 years... At the time InstallAware support was not able to assist and I became so frustrated with this problem that I put the entire project aside for several months and had completely forgotten about this post by the time I finally ...

Re: UAC Elevation Clarification

Aviv,
Thank you very, very much!
This is an excellent post and immediately clarifies the confusion I had around the choice of UAC elevation options within InstallAware.
I hope that this will be added verbatim to the IA Help file!

Thanks again,

Copy Options -Never Overwrite and Permanent File

Hi IA Gurus, I am having some frustrating problems with the 'Install Files UI. Specifically the 'Never Overwrite' and 'Permanent File' options found in the 'Copy Options' frame of the 'Install Files' UI. No matter what I do, the 'Never Overwrite' and 'Permanent File' options simply do not work. I ha...

Re: Vista UAC Elevation - Whats its purpose?

So here I am having upgraded to and installed V11 of InstallAware and sadly, thus far it does not appear that the documentation has improved at all. The original poster of this thread was on version 7 of IA and complained that the IA help provides no information at all with regard to elevation, and ...
