Also make sure you request the cert from the provider using Windows XP, not Vista - if using Vista you wont be prompted to save the private key file, instead its stored somewhere in the registry and you cant export it. If its too late then reissues are usually free. Once you have the .pvk and .spc f...

Announcements from InstallAware

Ive had maintenance since June last year, but never get any emails on new releases or anything - are announcements only made through the forums?

Partial Framework

There is some nice support coming in VS2008 SP1 for only downloading and installing partial .NET frameworks, say stuff to support a WinForms app but would leave out ASP.Net related files.
When does InstallAware intend to support this scenario?

TIA

We specifically moved to IA for this type of deployment. Writing pre-reqs in IA is far simpler than any other product IMHO. Ive been through Wise and IS over the last 7 years and our deployment today is a lot easier to maintain than it has ever been. The ease at which you can reuse pre-reqs is also ...

.NET 2.0 SP1

Will InstallAware be updating the .NET 2.0 runtime installer to also include SP1?

Copying .MIA files when authoring Application Runtimes

Think I've just worked out that you shouldnt do this!
The new .mia when running in the installer still refers to elements of the 'copied' .mia file.
Creating everything from scratch resolved my issue of seeing duplicates in the $PRELIST$ var.

Copy project folder to create similar installation.

Is there any cleanup I would have to do when copying 1 project to create a new one. I have updated product GUIDS etc but I have very strange behaviour occuring with prereqs where the $PRELIST$ variable keeps displaying multiples of the same string. Even when stepping over this code in the debugger i...

Project build directories

When I do a build it would be nice to have it output to a directory with the version number in the path - Something like this

"#PROJDIR#\\Release\\#VERSION#\\"

Is this possible?

TIA

Update: The ComponentId I was looking for is related to Office 2003. {3EC1EAE0-A256-411D-B00B-016CA8376078} If you strip the braces and reverse the first 3 groups it turns out this ends up in the registry here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Installer\\UserData\\S-...

Any plans to add a ComponentId check function?

Im currently eveluating IA and the first issue I hit is there doesnt seem to be a simple way of checking on the existence of a ComponentId from a 3rd party MSI. I use the Complocator and AppSearch tables at the moment in IS.
Unless there is a way to do this via the registry???

TIA

Checking ComponentId

How do you do a componentid check for an already installed file. In the way that you would with the appsearch and complocator tables when using IS/Wise?

TIA
